ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. French President Emmanuel Macron promised on Tuesday (September 12) a fast, exemplary reconstruction of the Caribbean islands of Saint Martin and Saint Bartholemy, struck by Hurricane Irma. Some 50 million euros ($60 million) will be released and all state services including the largest air lifts since World War Two are mobilized to restore a normal situation "as soon as possible," Macron said. The president added that public services were working to restore telephone lines, electricity, drinking water and schools while also saying he supported a parliamentary inquiry into the government's response to the hurricane, but called for a time of "national solidarity."
