U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at the Quirinale Palace in Rome on Wednesday (May 24) to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump met with Pope Francis and exchanged gifts. He is also due to meet Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni later in the day, before seeing him again on Friday (May 26) for a summit in Sicily of the Group of Seven (G7) richest nations.
Security precautions have been ramped up in Rome, with the areas around the presidential palace, Vatican City, the American ambassador's residence and the U.S. embassy temporarily closed to traffic.
