Katie Holmes channels her split with Tom Cruise in her latest TV project according to its director. Francis Maguire reports.
Former 'Dawson's Creek' actress Katie Holmes stars in a new TV mini-series 'The Kennedys - After Camelot'. She plays the former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the show. It's the second season and reflects Jackie's life after the assassination of her husband John F. Kennedy. The show's director Jon Cassar says Holmes' life has some parallels with the character she plays - who herself was often a major focus of media attention due to a high profile marriage. (Soundbite) Director, Jon Cassar, saying: "It's really interesting because I think, amazingly enough, the two times we've done the show, her life has paralleled that. She was in the limelight when she was with Tom Cruise and she had to deal with all of that and then by the time we got to do this one, Tom Cruise was out of the picture, now she's a single mother, she's a working mom just like Jackie (Kennedy) became so amazingly enough her life started to parallel Jackie a little bit so I'm sure she was able to bring a lot of that to the role which I think is really interesting." Holmes directed one of the episodes. And she also described why she felt the Kennedys retained such an interest for audiences fifty years on from JFK's presidency. (Soundbite) Actress, Katie Holmes, saying: "I think it's the irony of being the most glamorous family and the most stylish and wealthy and seem to have it all and mixed with such incredible tragedy." The four hour mini series will premiere on Reelz on Sunday April 2.
