While promoting 'Live By Night' actor Ben Affleck said that Meryl Streep was not ''overrated'' in a swipe at President-elect Donald Trump's tweet about the actress' Golden Globe speech.. Saskia O'Donoghue reports.
The stars were out in Los Angeles on Monday night, for the premiere of new movie 'Live By Night'. But talk wasn't just on the film's upcoming release. The film's director and star Ben Affleck - was quick to defend Meryl Streep - after she used her golden globes acceptance speech to have a pop at Donald Trump. Trump has since retaliated - callling Streep 'one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood'. Affleck was having none of it though, saying Trump's comment was false. (SOUNDBITE) (English) 'LIVE BY NIGHT' ACTOR/DIRECTOR/WRITER/PRODUCER, BEN AFFLECK, SAYING: "I thought it was wonderful, I thought Viola was magnificent, I thought Meryl was magnificent and I think if there's one thing that we know to be true on earth - literally and truly one thing - it's that Meryl Streep is not overrated." Affleck's co-star Elle Fanning agreed, singing Streep's praises. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, ELLE FANNING, SAYING: "Oh yeah, I did watch and she is the best. Meryl's like the ultimate ever, so." 'Live by Night', which he wrote is set in the Prohibition era and follows a military veteran and police chief's son as he slowly descends into the world of gangsters. It goes on release in North America on January 13.
