People in Melania Trump's hometown of Sevnica look forward to seeing a Slovenian First Lady in the U.S. and say the former model always appeared destined for big things. Mana Rabiee reports.
Donald Trump's election victory shocked many ... but for those who knew wife Melania as a girl, HER ascension to the White House as the next First Lady doesn't really surprise. The 46-year-old (check) once called Melania Knauss (check pron:) was raised in the tiny Slovenian town of Sevnica. Old friends there say they rooted for her throughout the campaign. Including childhood friend Mirjana Jelancic, who remembers Melania as ambitious even as a young aspiring model (photos). (SOUNDBITE) (Slovenian) MELANIA TRUMP'S CHILDHOOD FRIEND AND LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, MIRJANA JELANCIC, SAYING: "As a child Melania was very creative and innovative already, and in that sense Sevnica was just too small for her... and I believe that is why she found her path to success abroad." But Melania's appearances on the campaign trail didn't always go smoothly. ...most notably, her Republican convention speech when she was accused of plagiarizing language from one Michele Obama had famously given. (nats…. nats) None of that swayed her supporters in Sevnica. (SOUNDBITE) (Slovenian) SEVNICA HEALTH CLINIC DIRECTOR, VLADIMIRA TOMSIC, SAYING: "I believe she will make an excellent first lady and that she will take her Slovenian values and bring them to America and the world at large." Melania's family still owns this small home. But the new 'house' she'll be moving shows just how far she's come.
