Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says his wife Melania will hold a news conference in the coming weeks to address press speculation that she may have entered the United States to work illegally. Rough cut (no reporter narration)
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Donald Trump said on Tuesday (August 09) that his wife Melania will hold a news conference in the near future to address speculation raised about her immigration status. Trump, who has taken a hard line on illegal immigration, promising to build a wall along the Mexican border, told supporters at a rally in North Carolina that the media had manufactured a controversy. "They said - headlines: maybe she came in illegally, maybe… let me tell you one thing, she has got it so documented," said Trump. News outlets such as Politico have pointed out what they say are inconsistencies in Melania Trump's accounts of her visa status when she entered the United States, suggesting that she worked as a model when her visa did not permit her to be employed. "Here's the only problem", said Trump, "she came in totally legally." Trump said his wife would hold a news conference in the coming weeks to address the issue.
