Donald Trump claims that Bernie Sanders secretly “hates” Hillary Clinton, and says that he and the left-wing Democrat are in “complete accord” on the issue of trade. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Donald Trump sought to play up differences between Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders on Wednesday (June 29), claiming to know that Sanders secretly hates the former Secretary of State. Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee and is a polling only two points behind Clinton according to a recent Quinnipiac University poll. Speaking to supporters at a rally in Maine, Trump said that Sanders, who has still not endorsed Clinton even though she is the presumptive Democratic nominee "cannot stand her". Trump has in recent weeks sought to play up common ground with Sanders, who, as a self-proclaimed "Social Democrat", is on the opposite side of the ideological spectrum. "There is one thing that Bernie Sanders and I are in complete accord with, and that's trade. He said we're being ripped off, I say we're being ripped off," said Trump. Sanders has said he would vote for Clinton to stop Trump from getting into office, and he has accused the real estate billionaire of running a campaign based on "bigotry".
