Sources tell Reuters Amazon.com and Lionsgate are working on a television series that would be based on the music of 74-year old recording artist Bob Dylan. Bobbi Rebell reports.
Amazon and its customers may be singing along with one of the most revered musicians of all time. A source tells Reuters that Amazon, which has become a major player in the content business, is developing a TV series with Lionsgate, based on the songs of Bob Dylan. The companies have secured permission to use the 74-year old's lyrics and compositions. The series, according to Variety would be called "Time Out of Mind," featuring two characters or story threads from Dylan's songs that would end up colliding in some way. The series could boost Amazon's media sales, says Variety's Cynthia Littleton: (SOUNDBITE) CYNTHIA LITTLETON, MANAGING EDITOR OF TELEVISION, VARIETY, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "When you have the element of Bob Dylan on Amazon, what does Amazon sell? It sells a lot of CD's and music and if you have a show that is highlighting the Bob Dylan catalogue it might stand to reason that some of the people watching it might be interested in seeking out that. Oh I've got to get a new copy of Blonde on Blonde." According to Variety, Amazon has a number of music-themed series in development including a Grateful Dead-themed drama series produced by founding member Bob Weir. No word on financial terms of a deal.
