Google's cloud business signed up Home Depot as a client. It may reportedly announce it'll serve Walt Disney and Netflix as well. Fred Katayama reports.
Google's on the go. It just nabbed a huge client for its cloud computing business: Home Depot. And the Wall Street Journal says, other names Google may announce at its conference Wednesday include a unit of Walt Disney and Netflix. It recently signed up Apple and music service Spotify as clients, both of whom are also customers of industry leader Amazon.com. The Home Depot win is particularly sweet because most of Google Cloud's bigger name customers are new Internet-based companies. Home Depot could boost its standing among traditional corporations. Cloud computing is the fast growing service that allows clients to store data on a network of remote servers. Google is a distant number four after industry leader Amazon, Microsoft, and IBM, according to Synergy Research. But it appears Google is gaining momentum. It announced this week that it's launching two new regional data centers in Japan and Oregon for its cloud platform.
