The Clooneys met three families who have fled from Syria - and talked about their own family histories as migrants. Rough cut (no reporter narration).
NATURAL ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Actor George Clooney and his lawyer wife Amal met three refugee families who fled from Syria and now live in Berlin. The meeting was arranged by the International Rescue Committee ahead of Tuesday's (March 15, 2016) anniversary of the start of the Syrian conflict. George Clooney told the Syrians that his family had moved from Ireland to America over a hundred years ago, where they - along with many Irish - faced persecution. Amal Clooney explained that she and her parents had left their home of Lebanon in the 1980s and that they had settled in the UK. She said she understood that the three families hoped to return to a safe and peaceful Syria as soon as possible. A record 60 million people are currently displaced worldwide - and millions have become displaced during the Syrian conflict.
