The Syrian National Coalition says that tentative truce meant to be in force in Syria is not being observed, blaming Russian forces and the Syrian government. Nathan Frandino reports.
While the ceasefire may be holding in much of Syria, amateur videos said to be filmed on Saturday appear to show otherwise. This video - said to be in Aleppo - shows an unknown plane and smoke rising on the horizon. These are the types of the incidents that Syrian National Coalition Vice President Nagham al-Ghadri says Russia and the Syrian government are still carrying out. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SNC VICE PRESIDENT, NAGHAM AL-GHADRI, SAYING: "Russian air strike and regime bomb shelling didn't stop. And of course we called the United Nations and we informed them about the area and whom, either the regime air strike or the Russian, so we knew that from the beginning, that this regime, or even the Russian, won't commit to this ceasefire." Ghadri says the breaches in the truce were happening in Latakia, Aleppo, Hama and Damascus. Russia has already said it would suspend all flights over Syria for the first day to ensure no wrong targets would be hit. Other rebel groups reported occasional government violations, which the Syrian military denied. At the United Nations in Geneva, the special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said monitors are paying close attention. (SOUNDBITE) (French) U.N. SPECIAL ENVOY FOR SYRIA, STAFFAN DE MISTURA, SAYING: "They are working, day and night, monitoring all the incidents that are reported, when there are incidents, to see which one are true incidents and how we can control them." If the truce holds, Mistura plans to start a new round of peace talks... another effort to end a war that has killed more than 250,000 people.
