A non-profit organization brings dogs to the Buffalo/Niagra airport to help relieve the stress of holiday traveling. Diane Hodges reports.
(CLOSEUP PICTURE OF DOG'S FACE) Few people could be angry while looking at Sophie, and that's the idea behind Paws for Love. The program takes dogs to the Buffalo/Niagra airport to help calm stressed-out travelers. Handler Kathy Galus says the service is especially appreciated this week. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) KATHY GALUS SAYING: "It just helps take the edge off as people are standing here and a little stressed after having traveled all day. " One of those who was glad to see Sophie was Julia Helfman. She spent hours waiting for her flight to Florida, only to see it cancelled. (SOUNDBITE)(ENGLISH) JULIA HELFMAN SAYING: "I was very angry and upset and I started to cry because I just want to see my grandparents and it's the holidays. It was like someone was there. Stress just kept going away everytime I petted her because she was kept on relaxing. I wish I was that relaxed." A moment of relaxation that's badly needed during the holiday season, no matter where it's spent.
