WSL Strategic Retail's Candace Corlett says Wal-Mart's strategy to start Cyber Monday on Sunday will grab sales from rivals, though early starts won't increase overall sales for retailers.
Nervous retailers try to get a jump on holiday sales battling Black Friday spreading out earlier in the week. Now stores like Wal-Mart or even starting Cyber Monday on Sunday. Candace current lead is president of WS cells strategic retail and she is here with her take on it so. Nice to have you thank you mentioned we think about this getting a jump on Cyber Monday getting a jump on black. Pratt is this gonna work. Oh it is working. It's working half it's really. Like November of whole month is filled with their own thing leading up to Black Friday. And starting the day before. The actual Monday having cyber Sunday night. It's just to repeat the pattern we've seen over the last few years on our right. Is it going to work in terms of adding new CL or any stretching out the sales there or. There I don't think it works much in terms of incremental things. The first out of the box may get a little bit of a bomb because of someone's going to buy a TV or electronic or appliance. If they can get it done Sunday night instead of having to do it from work Monday whoever's available mountain Sunday night Wal-Mart may get the itch but. I don't think it's adding much in incremental sales. Have a budget in mind for holiday. So we Telus to sort of spread that but to them throughout the month in terms of Black Friday aimed at him for it. Holiday every alcoholic you are watching millennium on July. Because millennial seem to be the only generation. Where majority of them haven't enthusiasm. Around black. Now having that. They are the generation. That's not likely to be in the stores they will do most of their Black Friday shopping online. So with the Black Friday happens the Wednesday before the Thursday before it starts at 6 o'clock Thanksgiving night they'll be doing a lot of that shopping online. The interesting thing is they're also saving up to shop for themselves those states. Interesting so are we gonna see. Lessen the mayhem in actual brick and mortar stores. I'm Black Friday and it won't affect you for the perception of retired people. Maybe not feel the same urgency within CNN news media going crazy over these big lines outside in the middle of the night. You know it may actually turn out to be a good thing because we do know from our survey is that. The chaos the confusion. Anxiety. Is off putting people have stayed away because of that they find details too congested. And it may actually work better for retailers that there is plus friends in the store actually become a nice holiday to go shopping and tickled the season. But people will be getting a sales well I think they were spread out their Black Friday shopping in the week before we've heard some cautionary tales from some big names like Macy's and Nordstrom and talking already about how he need to do to move. The merchandise what you're hearing from retailers about their approach to Black Friday and sacrament in holiday season based on how things have gone in the third quarter. Which has not been well for the most part you know and retailers. Have made their buying decisions long before the holiday as you know everything's in place and there's no turning back and just about the only recourse I have. Is to make the sales much more time to. See if this'll be very good for consumers it is always good for consumers absolutely. Are we will leave it there thank you so I'm very welcomed I think you. Our thanks to get at south strategic recount can describe that I'm back at rebel bits is Reuters.
