US Airways flight 1939 lands in Philadelphia, marking the last flight for the airline which merged with American Airlines. Katharine Jackson reports.
US Airways flight 1939 taxis to an arrival gate at Philadelphia airport on Saturday (October 17), having flown in from San Francisco on the airline's final flight. US Airways and American Airlines merged in 2013, forming American Airlines Group, now the world's largest airline. The new company has combined systems related to flight movement and dispatch and transferred thousands of reservations from US Airways' platform to American's. American said it canceled some flights Saturday to make Day One easier and hired 1,800 reservation and airport agents to fill in while US Airways employees are being trained. American Airlines Group now has a new website, reservations system and brand.
