Priceline's deal will make it easier for TripAdvisor users to instantly book hotel rooms. Fred Katayama reports.
A new deal with online travel agency Priceline making it easier for TripAdvisor users to book hotel rooms. Instead of sending those searching for hotel rooms to Priceline's Booking.com site as it had in the past, TripAdvisor users can now stay on TripAdvisor.com and instantly book rooms from Booking.com's listings. News of the deal sending the stock of the travel review site up. But Priceline's shares fell. TripAdvisor kicked off the instant booking feature a year ago to boost revenue. But Priceline didn't join at that time. It was afraid of beefing up a rival. But that changed after Marriott listed its hotels on TripAdvisor's platform this summer. Priceline and TripAdvisor did not say how they will share revenue from the deal. The partnership will in time likely include Priceline's other websites, priceline.com and agoda.com.
