A Chinese ice cream maker creates an edible delight out of the head of a WW2 war criminal to celebrate the 70th anniversary of China's victory over Japan. Patty See reports.
I scream, you scream, we all scream... for war criminal ice cream? A company in Shanghai is offering an icy, sweet treat modeled on the head of executed Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo. It's being marketed as a novelty to recognise the anniversary of China's World War Two victory over Japan. Tojo was held responsible for countless war atrocities and was executed by hanging by an Allied Tribunal in 1948. And, for a limited time, his image can be eaten in a display of national patriotism. (SOUNDBITE - ICE CREAM ENTHUSIAST) "It makes Chinese people come to eat ice cream with hatred. It's a fresh idea.." (SOUNDBITE - ICE CREAM ENTHUSIAST) "I thnk a sort of sales event like this is pretty interesting on a special day like today, Nowadays, young people have a weak view of patriotism. This may may be helpful for boosting patriotic thinking." According to the makers of the specialty ice cream, Tojo's head is available in vanilla, mocha, tiramisu and mango flavors..
