Wendy Liebmann, CEO of WSL Strategic talks about what Wal-Mart needs to do to get back on track after its earnings and sales miss. Bobbi Rebell reports.
They miss for a Wal-Mart failed economy a shot at forecast consumers pocketing their savings from tax refunds are cheaper gas. Rather the shopping for discretionary items and of course the strong dollar. Also if problems so where does this leave Wal-Mart went in the evening is CEO of Debbie SL strategic retail. And joins us for some perspective on what Wal-Mart and frankly a lot of retailers are facing is so great to have you as always. So what is your take on Wal-Mart these days what's going on there. You know I think is very much reflection of the of role economic minds sit at Shoppach in the country we always say we goes warm up big guys the country. And it's really true shop is not very concerned about. Paying down the days even gas prices are down it doesn't mean they're running off to spindle let money. They worried about the day today in common and that spending on the basics. So that's a challenge and now we're seeing some gas prices creeping up the bed that's not gonna help. It's not gonna help Dolan will not always say publicly that they can reflect the business sales based on gas prices but the assumption would have been. No gas prices people come to the store more often that's not happening as not to sideline. So let's talk a little bit about Wal-Mart and what they're trying to do in terms of strategy online. Starting a lot of trouble competing with Amazon so they're trying to be a little bit more Amazon as they've got this fifty dollar. Trial where you can get deliveries the reading delivery every year for fifty bucks. Your take up and I. I think actually the more effective thing that they're doing is this whole program around click can collect so I can go online icann board but then I can go by the stole my knuckles store just pick up my groceries or whatever else and and I think that's much more logical because I'm saving on the shipping and that's that doesn't become a bad area because to some of it they shop as fifty dollars a year is a Barry. That is surely you also say they're Smart to focus on convenience yes absolutely because one of the other issues is. You know you lose one trip a month it will not that's an awful lot of people who want the grocery aisles Iraq in the apparel aisles. So they're trying to make the shopping experience easier small store formats like.
