Hollywood actor Robert de Niro and Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa open Nobu hotel in the heart of Manila's gambling complex. Sharon Reich reports.
STORY: Robert de Niro and Japanese Chef Nobu Matsuhisa team up once again. This time, the duo are opening the Nobu luxury hotel in Manila. Nobu is one of the three hotels being built in the 1.3 billion (USD) gambling complex, known as City of Dreams. In addition to restaurants, hotels and gambling, the complex features a posh night club and a Hollywood-style theme park. At a news conference after the ceremony, De Niro said he'd like to spend more time in the Philippines. SOUNDBITE: Actor Robert de Niro saying (English): "I'd like to do a movie here in the Philippines, it's just getting the project, whatever that maybe. Of course, absolutely," he said. The Nobu hotel in Manila has 321 rooms as well as Michelin-starred Chef Matsuhisa's signature fusion cuisine. SOUNDBITE: Japanese Chef Nobu Matsuhisa saying (English): "The Philippines, the restaurant business features comes wide open. It features big wide open, I'm very excited too, so after opening here, we'd like to see some more customers make start smiling to keep eating my food." Manila is building four casino resorts in what it calls "Entertainment City," and hopes to become an alternative gaming destination to Macau.
