North Korean state media released still photographs of artillery fire and landing exercises on Saturday (February 21), which was observed by leader Kim Jong Un. The North's state-run television KRT said the drill was training for "striking and seizing an island" conducted by the 4th Corp. and other island defense units. These units led the North's attack on a South Korean border island in 2010, which left four South Korean soldiers and civilians dead. The still photographs aired by KRT showed various artillery and missiles being fired and targets on an island exploding. KRT said Kim was accompanied by Hwang Pyong-so, director of the general political bureau of the North's military, Defense Minister Hyon Yong-chol and several other senior military officials.
