Manchester United have agreed a record $1.3 billion deal with Adidas for the German sportswear company to supply shirts and kit to the former English soccer champions. Melanie Ralph reports.
Fans at this Adidas sports store in Frankfurt try to grab a piece of history. While, elsewhere, Adidas is making it - with former English soccer champions Manchester United. It might be cause for them to celebrate too - they've agreed agreed a 750 million pounds deal with Adidas. The German sportswear company will supply shirts and kit to the former English soccer champions. The 10-year agreement is a world record for a soccer club. It's more than double the 31 million pounds-a-year deal Adidas was reported to have with Spanish side Real Madrid, previously the biggest. Nike, the world's largest sportswear group, had sponsored United since 2002. But earlier this month it pulled out of a bidding war with Adidas, meaning that the coming season will be its last as a partner of the 20-times English champions.
