May 1 - Amateur video appears to show the aftermath of an airstrike in Syria as President Assad prepares to seek another term. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Aftermath of an attack in Syria. Amateur video which can not be independently verified by Reuters appears to be the scramble in the streets after a government airstrike. The video comes as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad plans to seek another term. Analysts say Assad's defiance of calls to step aside reflects his growing confidence that he has turned the tide of a conflict which has killed more than 150,000 people. But no one is giving up the fight. Assad's foes say the June 3 vote will be a charade -- designed to lend him the legitimacy they say he lost when he responded with force to the first wave of protests in March 2011.
