ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The United Nations joined the global community in mourning the death of Nelson Mandela. The General Assembly of the international institution, which was not in session on Thursday when South African President Jacob Zuma announced the death of Mandela, held a moment of silence for the departed statesman and Nobel Peace Prize laureate at the opening of its proceedings. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson of Sweden also announced that all flags at U.N. institutions around the globe would fly at half staff in remembrance.
