Oct. 17 - After 80 years together, a 103-year-old man and a 99-year-old woman take the plunge with the religious wedding their family always wanted. Tara Cleary reports.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 For the sake of their children, 99-year-old Martina Lopez and 103-year-old Jose Manuel Riella finally have a Catholic wedding. The Paraguayan couple has been together for 80 years and entered into a civil union four decades ago. But that still wasn't enough for their eight children, says Lopez. SOUNDBITE: 99-year-old Martina Lopez de Riella (Guarani): "My children wanted us to get married - they told me that is what they wanted." All but two of their children were present as were most of their 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. The ceremony was a first for presiding priest Cristian Paiva. SOUNDBITE: Cristian Paiva, Catholic priest, saying (Spanish): "It is the first time I am marrying someone of this age and I'm very happy to marry these two." The service was followed by a party for family and friends.
