Sept. 3 - There's still a lot of chatter about that $130 billion price tag for the Verizon Wireless stake, so Conway G. Gittens takes a look at what else can be bought for that huge sum.
Today's Daily Digit is $130 billion. Much has been said about the price Verizon is paying to Vodafone to get total control for Verizon Wireless... But just how big is $130 billion? It's about equal to buying 613 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, that's one a day for more than a year and a half, according to the current list price. It's also big enough to buy the world's five most valuable sports franchises (Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcleona, the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys) almost 10 times over, using math from the Forbes Sports Team Values list. And it's bigger than individual economic activity in 19 U.S. states along with the District of Columbia.
