Sept. 2 - Amateur video appears to show rebel forces clashing with government troops in Damascus suburbs. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Rebel forces take cover inside a building in a Damascus suburb as they launch an attack on government forces. They prepare to storm positions held by the government's 81st Brigade. The video, which can not be independently verified by Reuters, shows the rebels unleashing fire power. They shout 'God is Great,' as they ride in captured tanks. As rebels close in, the war comes to the streets. The U.S. and some of its allies are now contemplating their first military intervention -- the aim would be to punish president Bashar al-Assad's government for killing more than 1,400 people in a chemical weapons attack last month. While the U.S. Congress is set to debate over taking action, Syria denies blame for that incident. In another suburb, rebels move into a building once held by government forces. They rummage thorough the pockets of a dead soldier. Syria's civil war, now in its third year, has killed more than 100,000 people. Millions have been driven from home.
