Aug. 7 - ''Game of Thrones'' reigns near top of HBO universe with 14.2 million average viewers in Season 3, helping parent Time Warner beat sales and earnings forecasts. Conway G. Gittens reports.
The Daily Digit is 14.2 million average viewers per episode. That number secures "Game of Thrones" as heir apparent in the HBO cable universe- until now still ruled by the Sopranos. The third season of "Game of Thrones" is HBO's second-highest watched series. HBO parent Time Warner touted the number as the media company beat sales and earnings forecasts, and raised its outlook for the year. Investors are paying close attention to the cable network unit, which includes HBO, for any signs that original programming at competitors like Netflix is causing viewers to tune out. Subscription revenues were up year over year and grew more than double the rate of the previous quarter.
