July 9 - 52,000 foreclosures were completed in May, as the rate slows down from a year ago, according to CoreLogic. Conway G. Gittens reports.
The Daily Digit is 52,000. According to data analysis firm CoreLogic, the pace of foreclosures fell to 52,000 in May, that's more than 20,000 fewer than the same time last year, though up just slightly from the prior month. But foreclosures are still well above the monthly average seen before the housing market collapse. During the years between 2000 and 2006, foreclosures only averaged about 21,000 a month. All in all, more than four million homes have been seized since the start of the crisis back in September 2008, according to the monthly update.
