July 2 - Dunkin' Donuts could double its U.S. store locations by 15,000, says Lazard Capital, as the food chain beefs-up competition with McDonald's and Starbucks. Conway G. Gittens reports.
The Daily Digit is 15,000. Looking for a Dunkin' Donuts....the store could well be on its way to double its locations to 15,000 or more, according to published estimates by Lazard Capital. The most likely region- the West- where its presence is still weak. The donut and coffee chain is already planning to launch upwards of 300 U.S. stores this year alone. It's expanding aggressively in the U.S., remodeling existing space to include partner Baskin Robbins, hoping to serve customers from breakfast to snack time- and beyond. And along those lines, the brand is expected to roll out new beverages and sandwiches to satisfy hungry appetites, along with an upgraded loyalty program. But it's up against two formidable foes - McDonald's is updating its restaurants and constantly tweaking the menu. And Starbucks is expanding and innovating too, with new food items expected to perk up lunch time.
