ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: United States Secretary of State John Kerry's plane landed in the Jordanian capital on Wednesday (May 22) where he will meet with senior officials from mostly Western and Arab states backing Syria's opposition to discuss how to bring all sides to the negotiating table. The 'Friends of Syria' nations backing President Bashar al-Assad's opponents are meeting in Amman on Wednesday. The United States and Russia announced two weeks ago that they would try to bring the two sides together - possibly in Geneva in June - for a peace conference that would choose a transitional government. Western powers and Russia back opposing sides in the cross-border Syrian conflict - though Washington and its allies have been unwilling to intervene militarily in support of fractured and partly Islamist rebel forces.
