April 25 - UPS delivered 125 packages every single minute during the first quarter of 2013, 4.1% more than a year ago. Conway G. Gittens reports.
The Daily Digit today is 125. UPS dropped off 125 packages every single minute during the first three months of this year; That adds up to 16.2 million packages a day and means a roll up of 4.1% over the same period in 2012. And UPS sees it continuing. What's more, the world's largest package-delivery company expects the small-package delivery market to grow faster than the U.S. economy. So far, it definitely contributed to the firm's higher quarterly profit, helped by strong demand in the post-holiday season, and growing e-commerce business. It also looks like UPS has consumers on its side. Many choose cheaper but slower shipping, and UPS' strong North American domestic network puts it in a better position than its rival -FedEx.
