April 4 - Argentina's president visits the flooded city of La Plata as the number of deaths rises. Paul Chapman reports.
The number of people killed by flash floods that hit the Argentine city of La Plata rose to at least 46 by Thursday morning. Some drowned in their cars, others while walking when the water rose suddenly on Tuesday. Up to 40 centimetres of rain fell in just two hours. Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has been visiting the area. (SOUNDBITE)(Spanish) ARGENTINE PRESIDENT CRISTINA FERNANDEZ SAYING: "The governor is going to announce, together with the mayor, the places where they are going to distribute water, mattresses and other assistance that the government is establishing." The Argentine Red Cross has set up an emergency stand to help people in need. The coast guard has brought in boats to rescue those stranded in the aftermath of the sudden deadly rain storm.
