Rebel forces battle for control of a southern town in Syria. Fierce fighting erupts near a check point. Amateur video which could not be independently verified by Reuters shows no let up in a war where no side has gained the upper hand. More footage shows the fight for a military airport in Damascus. Some suburbs of the capitol city have become urban wastelands. The two-year-old revolt against President Bashar- al Assad began with peaceful protests but descended into civil war claiming the lives of more than 70,000 people. On Friday the Turkish military released footage of a weapons stockpile near the border with Syria. Turkey is a staunch supporter of the uprising against -Assad. So far it has ruled out arming rebels, fearing it could be drawn into a regional conflict.
