Oct. 22 - The battle for control of Syria rages with little hope for even a temporary ceasefire. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
Amateur video appears to show Syrian government fighter jets in Idlib. The video, which could not be independently verified by Reuters shows plumes of smoke on the horizon. Rebel fighters walk through the streets, some celebrate their work on top of an army tank in a conflict that has already cost at least 30,000 lives. More footage shows rebels taking aim at government forces. This comes as rebels have cast doubts on any prospects for a truce in the fight. In Homs, anti-government fighters fire upon what they claim is a government tank. In Damascus black smoke emerges from an apartment block. International Mediator Lakhdar Brahimi is in Damascus pushing for a temporary ceasefire. On Sunday Syria's President Bashar al-Assad told Brahimi the key to any political solution was to stop the arming of the rebels.
