Gore Vidal has died. The writer filled his novels and essays with observations on politics, sex and American culture while carrying on feuds with big-name literary rivals. He died at his home in Los Angeles from complications from pneumonia. He was 86. Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine, says she is returning to her family's hometown to celebrate what would have would have been her son's 54th birthday. Jackson released a statement saying that she will host a series of events in Gary, Indiana including a candlelight vigil on the singer's birthday - August 29. Michael's three children are also expected to attend. Finally, Ricky Gervais is going to start teaching English. The comedian announced on his blog that he's working on a web series called "Learn English with Ricky Gervais." Gervais said he hopes to subtitle the show in as many languages as possible including Star Trek's "Klingon." Bob Mezan, Reuters.
