Gunfire and explosions from every direction as rebels battle the government for control of Aleppo. A fighter jet over the northern Syrian city in this latest video posted to a social media website. Activists say the government has stepped up its ground and air attacks on rebel outposts. Reuters cannot indepedently verify the content of this video. The increase comes amid reports rebels are in control of one of the city's districts. Aleppo, a city of 2.5 million people in the northern part of the country, as well as Damascus, now find themselves at the frontline for the country's insurgency. Both are seen as crucial tests for President' Bashar al Assad's ability to retain control in the face of the 16 month insurgency. Deborah Gembara, Reuters
