Jul 10 - European dairy farms pour milk in the streets of Brussels to protest against low prices. Rough Cut (no reporter narration)
(ROUGH CUT -- NO REPORTER NARRATION) Dozens of dairy farmers drove their tractors to the European Parliament building in the heart of Brussels on Tuesday to protest against the impact of overproduction on market prices. In an effort to show current market prices mean milk is worthless, the farmers stood on packs of hay and poured fresh cow's milk into a make-shift pool. Farmers from Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Austria and Ireland participated in the action organised by the European Milk Board. European Milk Board President Romuald Schaber says the surplus production on the European milk markets causes a dramatic drop in milk prices, threatening the farmers' livelihood, and called for the implementation of a pan-European voluntary supply constraint programme to be implemented.
