Jun 10 - Mourners at the funeral for some of the casualties of shelling in Deraa vow revenge and the death of President Bashar al-Assad. Paul Chapman reports.
Video footage uploaded to a social media website shows thousands apparently at the funeral for 14 of the victims of Friday night's shelling of Deraa. They were among 18 reported killed in an assault on the town by Syrian government troops. Reuters hasn't been able to independently verify the content of the footage. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday that all but six of the dead were women and children. Chanting mourners vowed revenge, the overthrow of the Syrian regime, and the death of President Bashar al-Assad. Two civilian massacres in as many weeks have added urgency to international talks on what to do following the failure of a ceasefire plan. Paul Chapman, Reuters
