U.S. Vice President Joe Biden met Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on Tuesday (August 23) to discuss rebuilding efforts after the devastating March 11 quake that crippled northeastern Japan. Biden, who kicked off a trip to Asia last week with talks in Beijing, met Kan in Tokyo to discuss reconstruction after the earthquake and tsunami killed more than 20,000 people and triggered the world's biggest nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in 1986. Biden will visit tsunami-devastated Sendai later on Tuesday to become the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the Northern Japan after the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.
