Aug. 13 - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann narrowly wins the Iowa straw poll. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
"With 16, 892 Iowans voting, the winner of the 2011 Iowa is Congresswoman Michele Bachmann." Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann narrowly wins the first big test of the 2012 White House race Saturday, muscling aside five other contenders in the Iowa straw poll. Bachmann, a U.S. congresswoman, narrowly beat Ron Paul in the non-binding mock election, a traditional early gauge of strength in the state that holds the first nominating contest in the Republican race to select a challenger to President Barack Obama next year. Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty came in third. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters
