July 24 'Saint Fidel?' jokes Venezuela's Chavez with Castro and soccer great Maradona. Rough Cut (No reporter narration)
ROUGH CUT- NO REPORTER NARRATION Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez joked with former Cuban President Fidel Castro and Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona on a video shown on Venezuelan state television. Argentine soccer star Diego Maradona, who has lived in Cuba on-and-off and undergone drug rehabilitation there, updated the pair about his mother's health. Chavez then responded that he was thankful to Fidel Castro for his medical treatment and joked that Venezuelans are calling Castro a saint for helping him notice the symptoms. Chavez had surgery in Havana last month to remove a baseball-sized tumor in his pelvis and has completed what he called a successful first session of chemotherapy. He has not said what type of cancer he has. State television said, Chavez returned to Venezuela on Saturday.
