In they Syrian province of Hama, locals say the government is in the midst of a military crackdown in retaliation for a massive protest two days earlier. Video posted to a social media website is purported to show tanks being deployed around the city. Locals also say security forces including snipers opened fire on demonstrators and arrested dozens. Their concerns have been echoed by several human rights groups who have been paying close attention to the area Syrian forces killed 60 protesters here a month ago. While Reuters cannot independently verify the content of these videos, Damascus has not kept its displeasure with the province a secret. Syrian Television reported on Saturday that President Bashar al-Assad fired Hama's governor. Deborah Gembara, Reuters.
