June 25 - Chilean students stage a mass performance of Michael Jackson's Thriller in a protest over higher education. ROUGH CUT ( NO REPORTER NARRATION)
Chilean students swap their protest banners for deft dance steps as they press home their demands for higher education reforms in Santiago. The students staged this mass performance of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' in front of Chile's presidential palace. They say the zombie theme is to symbolise their belief that public education in Chile is dying, and has been abandoned by the state. The protesters are urging greater spending on schools and changes to the nation's education system. In recent weeks they have staged a series of rallies demanding the resignation of the Minister of Education whom they accuse of failing to work with student groups. The protests have ranged from university strikes to high school sit-ins.
