June 19 - Shi'ites hold religious festival in Bahrain as government loosens its grip on public gatherings. Andrew Raven reports.
Shi'ite Muslims march through the streets of Bahrain. The procession is part of a religious festival just outside Manama, the capital of the tiny Gulf kingdom. It is the first Shi'ite festival since the government recently lifted a prohibition on public gatherings. The ban was imposed after thousands of Shi'ites took to the streets in February, protesting the Sunni-dominated government. The demonstrations left several dead and highlighted the deep religious and political divides in the country. Andrew Raven, Reuters
