June 4 - Broken glass and blood stained carpets at the site of the rocket attack that injured Yemen's president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Deborah Gembara reports.
A day after a rocket attack injured Yemen's president Ali Abdullah Saleh at this mosque in Sanaa, the floor is littered with broken glass and there are blood stains on the carpet. Copies of the Koran are scattered throughout. Every few feet, there are bits of military insignia which fell off of the uniforms of some of the men. Holes in the wall where shrapnel blasted through. Saleh is believed to have suffered major injuries to his neck and chest. Several news organizations including Al Jazeera have reported that the president is being treated in Saudi Arabia and that this man, Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is now in charge. While no one has officially confirmed Saleh's departure from Yemen or the transfer of power, the attack marks a major escalation in the conflict that has Yemen on the brink of civil war.
