May 14 - Plain-clothes gunmen fired at protesters Saturday demonstrating against President Ali Abdullah Saleh in the city of Taiz. Jon Decker reports.
Plain-clothes gunmen opened fire on protesters in Yemen's southern city of Taiz on Saturday injuring at least 15 people. According to witnesses, the men fired from rooftops on protesters who are demanding that Yemeni President Ali Abdillah Saleh end more than three decades of rule in the Arab world's poorest country. Protesters have been demonstrating across Yemen for months to try to oust Saleh. A plan negotiated by neighbouring Gulf States for Saleh to step down fell through last month when Saleh refused to sign. Jon Decker, Reuters.
